Local Theater Company Honors Fairchild

Bridge Theatre Company of Washington Heights
Celebrating arts in the community at this year's Bridge Theatre Company Awards Benefit are, first row from left: U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel; Ms. Fairchild; Mr. Estrada; Ms. Luna; Councilman Michels; Dr. Westheimer; and Councilwoman Virginia Fields; back row from left: Moises Perez, executive director of Alianza Dominicana; City Councilman Guillermo Linares; Bryan Wade, executive producer for the company; Merry Beamer, artistic director for the company; and Ralph Andrew, representing State Sen. Franz S. Leichter.

The Bridge Theatre Company of Washington Heights honored Ivy Fairchild, director of community affairs, at its spring benefit event held in the P&S Alumni Auditorium. Ms. Fairchild was honored along with Carlos Estrada, executive director of the Washington Heights Business Improvement District; Maria Luna, first chair of Community Board 12 and Democratic Committee district leader; and Councilman Stanley Michels.

This was the company's second annual awards benefit, which inducts individuals from the Washington Heights community as honorary members of the Bridge Theatre Company. Dr. Ruth Westheimer was special guest at the benefit. Proceeds from the benefit go to the company.

The honorees are people who have given support to the company in its efforts to bring arts to the community. Columbia provides "theater" space--the Alumni Auditorium--for the company, which otherwise would have no appropriate place for producing full-length productions. Ms. Fairchild has participated in some of the company's plays, making her stage debut in "House Husbands."
