PH Building In Center Field?

From 1903 to 1912, the plot of land bordered by Broadway and Fort Washington Avenue on the east and west, and 168th and 165th streets on the north and south, was the home of the Highlanders (or the Yankees, as they were more commonly known). A baseball field called Hilltop Park complete with scoreboard, covered stands, and bleachers was outgrown after a decade and the Yankees moved on, making way for what would later become the campus of CPMC.

The photo above, taken in May 1915, shows the demolition of the baseball field in preparation for what several years later would become the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.

A commemorative plaque, in the shape of home plate, was placed in the Medical Center Garden in 1993 as a gift from the New York Yankees.
